4th Annual Marcus Trufant Bowling and Billiards Classic

A heartfelt thank you to all who joined Marcus Trufant and his Seattle Seahawk teammates as they took to the lanes and billiards for charity at ACME Bowl on October 15, 2007.  We had the largest crowd yet at the 4th Annual Marcus Trufant Bowling and Billiards Classic.  We had 33 Seattle Seahawk players, Blue Thunder, Sea Gals, Blitz, Seahawk Pro Shop, and more than 350 supporters.  We are excited about the support we have received and thank all who helped further the goal of the Trufant Family Foundation - "...community involved in helping dreams comes true...".

Your generous support helped the Foundation raise just under $70,000.  The money goes to support families and children in our community.  These funds will benefit the Mary Bridge Children's Hospital Sickle Cell programs, Boys and Girls Club of South Puget Sound, Marcus Trufant Inspirational Scholarships, and other Foundation programs.

We could not have done it without the support and generosity of our event partners, sponsors and the public.  This year the 'Classic' featured noteworthy celebrities like Jeannie Naccarato, a 23 year professional bowler veteran who rolled out the first ball to start the tournament. Bill  Schwartz, 710 KIRO News Talk radio was the emcee, and Lenny Wilkins and Warren Moon stopped by to join in the fun.  "New York" Vinnie, who has been the emcee for the last 3 years was our special guest and  a bowler-how well he bowled? only Vinnie knows!  Live music was provided by 'Smooth', with Marcus's dad, Lloyd Trufant, on bass and vocals.  A special appearance by Chris Gardner, author of The Pursuit of Happiness rounded out the celebrities for the evening.  2007 winners of the 4th Annual Bowling & Billiards Classic are David Kirtman, top Seahawk bowler; Brandon Mebane, top Seahawk pool player.  Their names will be placed on the perpetual plaque for bragging rights throughout 2007.  Once again Rachel Terrill was the winning Seahawk wife bowler, Shelly Sun was the winning Sea Gal, Mike Boling (Turtle) from Blue Thunder was the top individual bowler, and Deon Grant, Kelly Jennings, Ervin Trufant, Trichina Williams, and Lee Faine were the 1st place team winners.

Watch for the date for the 5th Annual Marcus Trufant Bowling & Billiards Classic in October 2008, save the date and don't be late for an evening you'll never forget!!

4th Annual Marcus Trufant Fundraising Dinner & Auction
A Masquerade Gala
Date:  June 20, 2007
Location:  Tacoma’s Landmark Convention Center
“Temple Theatre Grand Ballroom”

The Trufant Family Foundation raised over $40,000 at the Annual Auction and Dinner Gala on Sunday, June 10 at Tacoma’s Landmark Convention Center. We were honored to have in attendance at our event this year - Tacoma’s Mayor Bill Baarsma, and his wife Carol Baarsma.  Several of Marcus teammates including Bobby Engram, Nate Burleson   Russell Davis, Shawn Locklear, Leonard Weaver and Marcus Weeks were in attendance.  We appreciate their support in our fundraising efforts to raise money for local youth programs, such as Communities In schools, Boys and Girls Club and the Marcus Trufant Inspirational Scholarship program.

The event was highlighted by keynote remarks from Marcus Trufant who spoke about his community involvement and how it has helped him to personally grow as a person.  Marcus explained that he has come to understand that it is more than an autograph or his picture that he can give to a child.  It is his message and his leadership on and off the field that creates the lasting impact on youth- and that is most important to him.  Marcus went on to say, that he stresses to kids with every presentation ,to obey your parents, study hard in school ,and respect yourself and others and be committed to what ever your dream are in life  by giving 110%. A highlight tape of Marcus in the community, created by Erin Carlson, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, was also featured to help inspire others to get involved and help make a difference in their community.”

Many thanks to the Polynesian Dance group from Communities in School that entertained us by inviting Seahawk players and guest to join them for a money dance. Additionally we thank the college students who shared their college experience with our guest and their appreciation of receiving the Marcus Trufant Inspirational Scholarship.

All proceeds raised during the event will benefit The Trufant Family Foundation – To help make dreams come true for youth. We host several events each year and businesses and individuals are encouraged to participate by volunteering their time to help organize fundraising activities, sponsorship of events, and/or donation of items for our auctions.

We raised over $34,000 with the help of our community partners and supporters. Thank you so much and we hope you will consider us in your charitable plan for future events. Our goal with this year’s fundraiser was to establish a Marcus Trufant Inspirational Scholarship at all 7 high schools in Tacoma including Oakland Alternative School and the School of the Arts.  I am happy to report that we met that goal and look forward to offering these scholarships on an annual basis for years to come. We were also able to donate continued support to positive youth programs in the community that send our youth to summer camps that enrich their social and athletic experiences, in addition to continued support for local programs  such as the Boys and Girls Club.

Details:  Members of the Seahawks recently stepped up to assist in a home makeover for a family in need. Marcus Trufant was joined by teammates Jason Willis, Marcus Tubbs and Sean Locklear for the housing re-do in Pierce County. The four helped to get the home of Tina, a single mom with 7 children, ready for a new look. The Master Builders Association of Pierce County Remodelors Council has four House Captainsinvolved with different projects throughout Pierce County. This is one way they can give back to the community. It was through the Remodelors Council that Trufant found out about Rebuilding Together last year and wanted to be involved. Marcus felt it was vital that he give back to the community, and this year he brought along a few of his teammates to do just that.
